Atutu is providing earthquake response in Myanmar

Our solar for education program aims to bring reliable energy access to educational infrastructure in marginalized and indigenous communities of Myanmar. Enabling teachers to educate and care for students safely with dignity and a peace of mind.

Illuminate Learning Program

The Illuminate Learning Program brings solar energy access to educational infrastructure in indigenous and conflict-affected communities of Kachin.

The country’s education system suffered double blows from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and 2021 military coup. Afterwards only 10% of students re-enrolled, and military attacks on rural schools drove students and teachers away from the classroom.

Our local findings show that a significant amount of learning is now taking place in informal learning centers run by former teachers and community leaders in classrooms that lack access to electricity.

We bring solar energy solutions to educational infrastructure in indigenous and conflict-affected communities of Kachin.

We are not addressing the underlying issues at hand with the education system but focus on aiding the teachers in getting the resources they need to best support their students.

Our local indigenous solar technicians, with the support of our US and Myanmar admin team, perform all installations and community engagements.

They install solar microgrids that power not only classroom lights but external facilities such as kitchens, dormitories, and electronics that allow students to focus on learning. To date we have completed 15 installations and impacted the lives of 380 people, allowing them to pursue education with the aid of electricity.

2024

  • Northern Kachin Boarding School

In February 2024, our Atutu team was able to install 11 solar home systems in community-run learning centers based in northern Myanmar.

2023

  • Southern Kachin Boarding School

In July 2023, Atutu partnered with a boarding school in Southern Kachin to provide solar energy to power crucial services.

  • Northern Kachin Boarding School

In April 2023, we shifted a monastery in Northern Myanmar from dependence on diesel to sustainable solar energy.
