2024 Northern Kachin Learning Center Installation

In the early spring of 2024, our Atutu team was able to install 11 solar home systems in community-run learning centers based in northern Myanmar as a part of our Illuminate Learning Program. Across six villages, the systems support 275 people by bringing energy access to the learning centers. Each learning center is run by a local community leader, who teaches their students crucial academic and life skills while promoting community values.

With the installation of our solar home systems, students and teachers now have access to lighting after dark and access to power for charging their devices. Previously, they had been restricted by daylight to complete tasks, often prioritizing chores and household tasks over homework and playing.

Students:

Children no longer have to prioritize chores and household tasks over homework and playing due to constriction of daylight.

Teachers:

Educators and students are able to schedule time towards education rather than sacrificing one task over the other.

Parents

Adults are able to have more time at night to complete chores, allowing for more autonomy with their time.

On average, the communities we support are 7+ years away from getting access to the national energy grid. Through our solar energy solutions, we have been able to accelerate energy access for marginalized communities. We are working towards dismantling these energy inequities and any donations towards funding helps.
